Self Help Skills - critical to complement Strong Moral Beliefs- to Prevent Wrongdoings. TO DO OR NOT TO DO? That should never be the question.

"To do or not to do?"
That should NEVER be the question.

"Nothing is impossible"
That should FOREVER be the answer.

With thousands of years of moral books on the shelves, one would have thought societal Wrongdoings a thing of the past.  So what are being overlooked that makes it so difficult?

Self-help Skills.
And the lack of it- as evident by the fact the Life Skills  or self help skills are not being focused on and taught as core curriculum  in today's education system.

One would argue that Moral Beliefs are simply to be stated  and accepted.
And by understanding, accepting them as never to break rules, wrong doings will then not occur.

But the practical reality is never that simple.

Based on the article we published in  2013

Teaching Success and Good Morals in 60 days?! The age of absurd Simplicity

https://iduidu.blogspot.com/2013/03/teaching-success-and-good-morals-in-60.html

there are 9 primary emotions that triggers wrong doings, of which Fear and Guilt are 2 common emotions.

And in another article we published

The Problem on Affiliation - The Hereditary, Impossible Hurdle to a Perfect Moral Society?

 https://iduidu.blogspot.com/2016/03/the-problem-on-affiliation-hereditary.html

even the strongest, most moral,  principled person could sometimes give in to Guilt to commit Wrong, due to Affiliation- loyalty pressures, the double edge sword of human Creation.

Self help skills are not just important as tool set to help one get out of the box,- as when one is already in that "to do or not to do"  box, it is often too late - but more importantly, it serves as a Prevention tool set , to prevent one from ever getting into that box.

Lets just use this common scenario  of a high school student as illustration:  A shy introverted student who lacks Life skills or basic social communication skills faced an exam the next day. and  he decided to cheat as he has not  been taking good notes in class, thus realizing that he could not pass the exam without quality  notes.  As a Prevention step,  with proper life skills, he could have easily asked his classmates for the notes, or even the teacher. And even if it does come down to the eventual day of the test, he could have asked his teacher to postpone the test for him if he is skillful enough to provide an honest explanation for the teacher to sympathize with his situation.
But because the student is shy and lack those life skills- not because he is purposely immoral - he would most likely commit the wrong to cheat due to fear of dropping out and guilt to his parents.

I am sure the above eg could be extrapolated to  many  common scenarios of daily life, career, personal or otherwise.

Self Help skills are tools not just for  Solution, but much more importantly : Prevention.
One never want to wait till that final Stage of   "to do or not to do".

To totally eradicate evil and wrong doings, it is not enough instilling high standards of  strict moral beliefs.
Strong self help skills must complement it.  (We are not in any way suggesting that Moral Standards becomes secondary to Self help skills.  Understanding, accepting and believing in strict Moral Standards remain primarily principal to societal structure.  But humans are not robots or gods, and under a hectic  24 hr fully scheduled earthly day, any one can be prone to mistakes- therefore Self Help skills must complement Moral Beliefs)

With strong self help skills, there is always ample of time, and a Proper way out.
 " Nothing is Impossible"
